After the events of the last story, the Doctor, Bliss, and the Twelve have been captured by Daleks and are trapped in a prison camp, with their memories erased. They’ve got their skills and personalities, but any personally identifying information is gone. Although the Doctor still merits special treatment; while the others have the run of the camp, he’s in a separate bunker behind a force-field. Bliss gets to bring him food twice a day, but she can’t stay long. People periodically get transmatted away for interrogation, and returned with their memories of it wiped. The Doctor has a bit of a crisis of faith. Without knowing who he was fighting against, or what he was fighting for, and with the available evidence indicating he’s a very dangerous prisoner, it’s possible that he’s some kind of monster. It’s an interesting line of thought, but very little is made of it, because there is a monster present, several in fact, hiding in the Twelve’s head. Unfortunately, she doesn’t know why she’s hearing voices, or why they’re so ruthless, but she does fairly quickly realize that following them gets results. Unfortunately, this story really feels like killing time until the next one. Maybe it’s the amnesia combined with the prison plot, but it really leaves the impression that the characters are just sitting around waiting for something to do.
