The Famished Lands

The Time War #3.2

Having decided that they want to help people affected by the war, the Doctor and Bliss end up on a planet suffering a global famine, because they’re dependent on trade for food, and the war has disrupted their trade routes. Unfortunately, there’s rather more going on here, as the artificial food substitute they’ve created…isn’t food, and is rather more sinister. Bliss and the Doctor get separated, so Bliss gets to do her confused stammering thing, followed by her technical brilliance thing. The Doctor gets an inadvertent dose of hallucinogens, which honestly proves pretty darned funny. The rest of the story, though, is rather grim, and illustrates what people will do in the desperation of the war, even those who are only tangentially affected by it, and don’t really know what’s going on. A new Tamasan appears, played by Adele Anderson. Unfortunately, Jacqueline Pearce had passed away by the time this was recorded, so Ollistra no longer appears. This is a decent enough war story, although not a standout.
