The Night of the Doctor

Webcast Special
Aired: 14 November 2013
This very short webcast was released as part of the 50th Anniversary, written by Stephen Moffat, to give viewers the chance to see the Eighth Doctor regenerate into the War Doctor. For those of us who got to see it unspoiled (and I did), the appearance of Paul McGann was so unexpected as to be jaw-dropping. Even more significantly to this project, just before regenerating, the Doctor specifically mentions his Big Finish companions: Charley, C’rizz, Lucie, Tamsin, and Molly. He left out Liv, Helen, and Bliss simply because they hadn’t been written yet, but if you want, you can imagine he was in a rush before regenerating. For many fans, this is as close to an “official” acknowledgment of Big Finish’s canon status as we’re ever likely to get, and it adds a nice coda to an unbelievable little story. Which brings an end to the "Classic" portion of the Doctor's life, but modern Big Finish isn't stopping there, not by a long shot.
