This next story involves a planet where the human colonists are being harassed by a swarm of giant moths – really giant, as in large enough for a human to ride one. Of course, whenever you have the animal natives of a planet attacking the human colonists for no reason…there’s always a reason. And honestly, it’s not all that hard to work out where this one is going. Writer Lisa McMullin considers moths to be very scary, and the story tries to lean into the horror aspects of being carried away by a moth, or trapped inside a cocoon. However, I don’t find moths frightening, so the horror aspects fell a bit short for me. I’m also disappointed that there wasn’t a single reference to “The Web Planet,” because that seems like an obvious choice.
