The timey-wimey continues in this story, to extreme levels; Andy even says the words at one point. Since the timestream is broken, or warped, or whatever, they can break all the usual rules…probably. So the Doctor decides to go back and get Andy moments before he died. Except he fails, and ends up slowly dying himself. As it happens, Andy also gets away, and has to make his way back to Baker Street on his own, going through quite an ordeal while it happens. Despite his Torchwood training, it’s clear he’s not dealing with all this too well. Which leads to an interesting examination of why people will sacrifice themselves to try to save the Doctor. He’d do it for them, sure, but the Doctor usually doesn’t want anyone to sacrifice for him, so what makes them do it? What happens if someone says no? For the Doctor’s part, he gets to have a good look back over the time he’s spent with Liv and Helen, and it’s really been a while now. The general vibe of smaller stories continues, and yet sneaks in a big explosion anyway.
