The Eighth Doctor and Lucie

The Eighth Doctor and Lucie

Lucie Miller’s era was pretty much the direct result of the revived TV series. As the show grew in popularity, there was pressure on Big Finish to provide content from the classic series, but in a format more comfortable for fans of the new series. Hence “The New Eighth Doctor Adventures,” which first aired on BBC Radio 7, and were then released on CD by Big Finish. Much like the new series, the stories are roughly an hour, with occasional two-parters, there are ongoing story arcs, and the Doctor has a bit more of an edge to his personality. Most significantly, the companion is a street-smart young woman with an attitude from contemporary times (that is, just like Rose Tyler). Lucie Bleedin’ Miller certainly fulfills the role, being distinctly different from Charley, yet hitting all the companion boxes, and importantly, not in love with the Doctor...at least at first. Because of the season structure, most of these stories go in production order. However, there have been some later inserts, many of which are stuck between Series 1 and 2, because that’s the only spot where they wouldn’t interfere with a cliffhanger.
