Now that Tamsyn has been established as the official companion, she needs a proper adventure to start her off. In this case, it takes place on a planet that’s one of those single-inhabitant prisons, and very heavily influenced by the writings of Edgar Allen Poe. We’ve got robotic raven guards, a pit and a pendulum, and a giant black cat. Tamsyn does a decent job her first time out: her snark is pretty good, although it’s hard to beat Lucie in that department. In exchange, she gets the Poe references that Lucie probably wouldn’t. The secondary characters all have American accents for some reason, and are mostly played by Americans, except for Fenella Woolgar playing the villain with a rather heightened American accent, but it still sounds good. The story itself isn’t the strongest, plot-wise, but it’s mostly about seeing how many Poe references can be shoved into a one-hour story (answer: quite a few). We also learn that Tamsyn is partial to cats, although Time Lord-agent cats are a new one on her. It’s a good first step.
