This story features Fitz Kreiner, a character from the novels. It has Fitz pretending to be the brains behind the Doctor’s exploits, but it doesn’t go nearly as poorly as any other time a companion has pretended to be the Doctor. That’s because the Doctor is behind the deception, although Fitz is more than happy to play along. Fitz is clearly portrayed as a character who doesn’t mind personal benefit (in the form of female attention), but is also fiercely loyal to the Doctor. Matt di Angelo plays Fitz as hammy and over the top, but that’s somewhat appropriate. Anji is conveniently asleep in the TARDIS for the whole story; Sam is mentioned, but only briefly. Fenella Woolgar has a small role, which is pretty cool. Even though there’s an alien invasion going on, the Doctor doesn’t take it terribly seriously, and seems to be having fun.
