Fugitives

Dark Eyes #1.2
Released: 10 November 2012

If the first episode was setup, this episode is “runaround.” Although Nick Briggs wants this to be a big epic, he’s structuring it like one long story. The Doctor and Molly spend the whole episode running from the Daleks, who always seem to turn up wherever they go. They bounce to 1940 Dunkirk, 1972 London, and the planet Halalka, which has nice tourist beaches, all of which gives Molly a good opportunity for culture shock, but she seems to adapt rather quickly. More oddly, she claims to recognize this TARDIS interior, and can’t seem to keep her hands off the controls, although she can’t remember just why they’re familiar. The Doctor tries to warm to this new companion, but he’s still carrying around a lot of grief, and he hates mysteries where the Time Lords know more than he does. As a result, he sometimes speaks quite harshly to Molly, but she gives as good as she gets. In subplot land, Straxus turns up on a mountain range and tries to kill himself, but fails repeatedly. Toby Jones gets a name (Kotris) and is revealed to be working with the Daleks. Final note: Although supposedly this episode is where the Doctor gets a haircut and his new costume, I’ll be darned if I can find where it happens, no matter how many times I listen to it.
