And this is where things go bang, at least as far as this boxed set is concerned, and the Eminence. The Doctor’s meddling in the last story doesn’t seem to have changed much, and now both Molly and Liv are in the hands of the Master. The action comes back to Earth, where the Master is going to orchestrate the Eminence’s takeover of humanity, so he can subvert it later. In the end, though, the Eminence realizes that it’s been a somewhat gullible ball of gas, and doesn’t really know who to believe anymore. The actual solution has a bit of deus ex machina to it, as the Doctor doesn’t really do much clever, aside from putting himself at the center of things and talking a lot. There’s also a bit of clunky descriptive dialog, but it’s hard to properly convey the actions of an evil gas on audio. But there’s a good pace, appropriate levels of action, and a heartfelt conclusion, which Matt Fitton is quite good at. Also check out Beth Chalmers, doing a convincing American accent and reprising her role from “The Seeds of War,” and Georgia Moffett in a small role. And this is a wrap for Ruth Bradley in this series, although not for Molly herself. It’s a bittersweet exit, and too short a time as a companion, but she made an impression.
