You could be forgiven for thinking of Cream’s song “White Room” (which also mentions “dark eyes” in the lyrics), but it seems to be a coincidence. This story doesn’t continue directly from the last, and might be in a different time period altogether. It begins nicely in media res, with the Doctor showing up at his house in Baker Street just before Armistice Day, 1918, to find Molly O’Sullivan living there (she saw it in the 1970s as the Ides Institute, but that was erased), harboring Irish deserters from the war. Of course, things start going sideways as soon as the Doctor turns up, and Molly’s retrogenitor particles get reactivated (a cheap retcon, but the series is called Dark Eyes after all). And then the Viyrans turn up, and not just any Viyrans, but temporally insane Viyrans. A bit odd, since they’re usually one of Nick Briggs’ favorite toys. Molly has always been commanding, but now she’s much more so, without the stress of being on a battlefront, as well as being more in her element. The conflict itself resolves somewhat quickly, but puts Molly back on the board, which is good.
