Time Lord Victorious: Echoes of Extinction

Time Lord Victorious Special

Released: 14 October 2020

Listened: 1/09/22

The Time Lord Victorious storyline was a bit hard to follow. It was a multimedia project including audios, novels, YouTube videos, comics, and I think there was an escape room in there too? The idea was that you were supposed to be able to follow it by just reading the bits you wanted to, which may have been true, but in practice that meant that the individual threads were kind of disjointed, and it wasn’t clear how they connected up. This story is a pretty key example. The gimmick is that it was released on LP (with a limited download availability); one side had an Eighth Doctor story, the other a Tenth Doctor story, and they connected up, such that you could listen to either side first. Except the Eighth Doctor story is pretty much standalone, and because it’s only 30 minutes, to fit on the LP, it’s pretty short. Basically, there’s a space station with a genocidal monster, a hostage woman, and a robot butler. The Doctor turns up, does his thing, leaves. I guess the Tenth Doctor section has the connection points, because there’s no sign of another Doctor here. Minor note: The theme music has switched to the “War Doctor” theme, and I believe will remain that way for the rest of the Eighth Doctor’s tenure.
