In this story, writer Nick Briggs gets clever with narrative structure, as well as an examination of the connection between morality and physical beauty. The games with flashbacks and recordings make it easier to come up with cliffhangers, but you have to pay attention while listening, and there’s a faint sense that it’s showing off cleverness, rather than serving the story. I’m also not very fond of the “twist” at the end; that’s not the sort of thing that Doctor Who often does.
