Given its position in the sequence, the boy of the title seems like it could refer to Brewster, but (spoiler) it’s actually Adric. Or an alternate version, anyway. Like many Paul Magrs stories, it’s somewhat off-kilter and complicated, with plenty of timey-wimey as well. At the time this was recorded, Adric hadn’t appeared in Big Finish, and seemed unlikely to, so this must have been something of a pleasant surprise to listeners. Of course, old Adric isn’t a particularly nice person, so he comes off the worse in the story. The two Victorian adventurers, Beatrice and Rupert, are remarkably well-drawn and quirky for secondary characters, and make a good impression.
