This one, I flat-out dislike, although it does have some positives. William Russell appears as a famous diplomat, one who’s an old friend of the Doctor’s, but who the Doctor keeps meeting out of order -- that’s more of a new-series trick, even though the new series hadn’t started when this was recorded. On the other hand, the idea of a sanctioned “sport” in which hundreds of people die in every match is just silly, and worse that the Doctor ends up participating without knowing what’s going on. I also found the athlete characters with their shifting loyalties hard to keep track of, as their accents are all similar.
