The next three stories come from the third Diary of River Song box set. At this point, Big Finish had given up on having River try to tiptoe around the Doctor’s older incarnations, and she just interacts with him directly, for an extended period. It’s implied that the Doctor travels with first Brooke, then River, for quite some time, which stretches credulity on the “trying to get back to Amsterdam” story, but it’s what we’ve got. This is more River’s story than the Doctor’s, but he does get to be fairly sharp and action-oriented. River relates a little differently to each Doctor, but she seems to have basic affection for the Fifth, probably because of his similarity to the Tenth. The ending is perhaps a bit contrived, but Jac Rayner and Alex Kingston really sell it.
