The Doctor is barely in this final piece of the story, spending most of it sidelined, which gives River room to work, and it’s a good thing, because River is fairly ruthless in this story. It’s great to have Nina Toussaint-White (Mels) playing an incarnation of Brooke, but the younger River clones sound awfully alike, which can make it a little tough to follow what’s going on. Even more than the previous stories, this one has very strong modern-series sensibilities, and the Fifth Doctor is just around for decoration.
