Companion Chronicles Special

Released: 4 March 2010

Listened: 5/17/20

I’m not sure exactly why this story was released as a special, instead of a regular Companion Chronicle, but there it is. Mark Strickson narrates, and it’s a Turlough-focused story in the American Old West, but it’s sci-fi, rather than a true historical. The first half has Turlough alone for much of it, and we get a lot of insight into how he feels right after having left the Black Guardian. The second half is more straight-up action story, with the Doctor taking a bigger role, and frankly a deus ex machina resolution. Strickson does a good job of playing both the Doctor and Tegan, just enough of an impression without being a parody. It’s a decent story for the peek inside Turlough’s head, if not for the plot.
