Oddly, although this story was released with “The Mind’s Eye,” it’s not connected to that story, and actually takes place after “The Bride of Peladon,” so we hear about Erimem’s departure before it happens (unless you deliberately listen to it later, as I did for this project). This is the first audio appearance of the Viyrans, created by Nick Briggs for the 2007 Doctor Who Annual, and then transferred to Big Finish, so they’re technically the first new-series monster to jump to audio. It’s short, but the structure is out of sequence, and used to good effect. Also, Nicola Bryant does a better job here of selling panic and distress than I’ve heard in previous stories.
