A rather famous Companion Chronicle, only the first half takes place at this point in the project, so that’s all I’m listening to here. In this part, Peri and the Doctor land in Los Angeles, where they meet an older Peri who has apparently joined the US equivalent of Torchwood. Older Peri is fairly jaded, and lies to the younger one about how their life went after the Doctor, but we don’t know why. There isn’t much that contributes to solving the greater mystery of Peri’s fate, although the Blinovitch Limitation Effect doesn’t happen, which the Doctor thinks is odd. This story is written by Nev Fountain, and that always means Peri is extra-snarky, and this time he’s got young Peri, old Peri, and the narrating Peri, so there’s snark everywhere, along with some clever turns of phrase. Nicola Bryant does a great job differentiating old Peri’s voice from young Peri’s, although as always, the American accent has a few hitches that probably only Americans notice (she drops her R’s in an English way, rather than an American one). This story is probably best listened to in one go, but the first half ends with the TARDIS headed toward Androzani Minor, which is appropriate for this project.
