The interlude is over, and we’re back with Peri and Erimem again. This is another true historical, which means it’s grim, but this one has a special flavor of grim, because the “Son of the Dragon” is Vlad Dracula. Erimem has no idea who he is, but recognizes a fellow leader. Peri keeps getting hung up on the fictional version of Dracula, and is terrified of him. The Doctor keeps dropping bits of historical fact for the listener’s benefit, but honestly he doesn’t do a lot. As always seems to happen in historicals, the companions are separated, and each spends time with the opposing faction. Normally, this means everybody finds out that the two sides are more alike than different, and not all that bad, really, but in this case, everybody is pretty much equally bad. There’s talk once again of Erimem possibly wanting to leave, but she doesn’t. The extras on this release are extra long and rambly, because they spend a lot of time talking about the revived series (which was in its second season at this point), and how many actors now want to do Big Finish because their children like the new series.
