This story isn’t quite as dark as the last, but it’s still fairly grim. After an adventure in the past and the future, Erimem is now treated to one of the more extreme Doctor Who locales in the Axis, similar to the Land of Fiction or the Celestial Toyroom. This is the sole Big Finish story by comics writer Simon Furman, and it draws on quite a bit of Time Lord lore, citing them (perhaps inaccurately) as noble defenders of the timelines, willing to sacrifice themselves if necessary. The main villain is the “Jester,” whose male incarnation seems to be channeling Mark Hammil’s Joker, but the female incarnation has quite a few similarities to Missy. Erimem and Peri don’t seem to get along quite as well this time, perhaps from the stress of Peri teaching Erimem to read English. It also seems to end on sort of a cliffhanger; which I suspect was never resolved.
