This story is full of deep cuts and continuity references. It’s Peladon, so of course there’s an Aggedor (who doesn’t do much), a noble Ice Warrior (Peri knows them from “Red Dawn”, a shifty Arcturan, Alpha Centauri, and trouble in the mines. On top of all that, there’s an Osiran, a reference to “Pyramids of Mars,” which suddenly ties into Erimem’s history in a way we’ve never seen before. It all adds up to large piles of plot, with not a lot of room for characterization. It’s also nowhere near as grim as Erimem’s previous stories. Perhaps that’s why she chooses to stay on Peladon and become queen, much to Peri’s surprise, but not the Doctor’s. It’s a fun story, if ultimately a little light. On the whole, Erimem seems to have been not exactly a great fit, but close. She seemed happy in her travels, but was always looking for a place to stop. She only really pales because the other Big Finish original companions (Evelyn, Hex, and Charley) are stand-outs. I wouldn’t mind seeing her again, but that hasn’t happened.
