The main item of note for this story is that it introduces Erimem. Unlike other companions from the past, she displays some fairly modern attitudes (atheism, women’s equality), and also demonstrates considerable wit and courage in her own place and time, marking her as a potential companion. For her part, Peri is also intelligent and brave, if maybe a bit more hesitant than in the last couple of stories. The plot wanders a bit, with the first two episodes seeming like a true historical, but then aliens and tech and revelations about the Sphinx show up in the last episode, which jars a little. The “I know you’re in there somewhere” ending isn’t terribly original, but it is a Doctor Who staple.
