I enjoyed this story more in spite of Kamelion than because of him. The space-hippo aliens are interesting as individuals and well-characterized as a group. Tegan gets some solo time to show off her skills, and Turlough is a part of the action without really wanting to be. The plot has enough twists that each episode feels individual, although the ending could have been a bit better.
