This is the first pre-Unearthly Child story that Big Finish did, although it wouldn’t be the last. This story has a number of links, mainly to Susan’s offhand mention of the planet Quinnis in “Edge of Destruction,” but the framing story continues directly from the story with older Susan and her son Alex, “An Earthly Child,” which continues into “Relative Dimensions” and then into the fourth series of Eighth Doctor Adventures, which I’ll cover eventually. The story itself is strange and bizarre, as Marc Platt stories often are. Much like the other stories from this era, it’s less an adventure, and more the Doctor and Susan stumbling into a situation, finding themselves in trouble, and trying to get out of it again. There isn’t really any injustice to fight, and the Doctor is plainly dismissive of the less advanced natives he runs into. His arrogance is on full display here, and could have led them to quite a bit of trouble if not for some luck.
