Placed here, later in Ian and Barbara’s timeline, because they’ve lost track of how long they’ve been traveling. The TARDIS comes back to Coal Hill School, and Ian and Barbara think they’re home, but unfortunately it’s June, several months before they left. They try to stay anyway, which results in some comedy as they try to avoid their earlier selves. The Doctor has a very early-seasons understanding of the laws of time, and won’t explain just why it’s so bad to cross one’s own timeline. Of course we know Ian and Barbara can’t stay, because of the larger narrative, but you’d think they could do a bit better job of hiding than they do. Stephen Critchlow’s First Doctor is getting to be quite good. I get a little tired of the “they’re home, but something’s wrong” stories with Ian and Barbara, but there aren’t quite as many of them as I thought.
