This is where things start to get a bit strange. Because it turns out that to follow this storyline, you’re going to have to remember things from “The Daleks’ Master Plan,” which is a lost episode, so you’ll have to know the plot somehow. You’ve got the planet Kembel, somehow still around, complete with Varga plants, you’ve got Mavic Chen (or someone who thinks he’s Mavic Chen), and you’ve even got Zephon, son of Zephon, from the planet Zephon (not very imaginative). Ann, K-9, and the Doctor spend the first half of the story in mortal peril from the elements, and the second half split up, trying to figure out what’s going on in this institution that calls itself a retreat, but is very probably an asylum. And that’s pretty much it. Ann gets to use her skills, but then the story ends on a cliffhanger, which in this case, was also the end of the first boxed set of Season 8.
