In 2013/2014, Nick Briggs created the Eminence and the Infinite Warriors as a “big bad” exclusive to Big Finish. As such, it pops up in a variety of stories, with its timeline out of order relative to the Doctor’s. This story, however, is their first meeting from the Doctor’s point of view. Beyond that, though, it’s a fairly standard story. The Eminence is busy waging war on humanity, the Doctor turns up and tries to stop it. Leela gets a lot of agency in this one because she’s separated from the Doctor and has to fight her way back on her own. There could probably be some interesting questions of identity in this story, or perhaps some timey-wimey nonsense given the out-of-sync timelines, but there isn’t. It’s mostly military action and explosions, which is fine for what it is. The Doctor can’t get a clean win, however, because the Eminence is needed further down the timeline. Although he finds that disturbing, he doesn’t really seem to do anything about it right now.
