Of course, if you’re launching a new Big Finish series, you need to have Daleks in there somewhere, especially since Leela has never encountered Daleks on TV. So they land in 2025 London, when apparently holograms are common, and the National Gallery has been turned into the HQ of an energy company, but nobody has smartphones, they have “tiny TVs” instead. Leela gets to wear contemporary clothing, including trainers, which she likes quite a lot. These Daleks are a fairly classic bunch; they’re trying to wipe out humanity in 2025 to alter the timeline. Which is a nice reversal of “Genesis of the Daleks,” although 2025 seems a bit early to try it. It’s a fairly straightforward story, as Nick Briggs stories often are, with not much in the way of surprises, but that’s OK. It’s mainly about a standard Dalek conflict, and it works well for that.
