This is a bit of a surreal one, but then, it involves the Land of Fiction. But not in the way you’d expect – there’s no famous characters here, just characters from unpublished novels, TV spin-offs, and tabloid representations of actual people. It’s unusual, but not twisty in the way that John Dorney stories normally are. There is, however, room for some really cracking dialog. The Crooked Man himself, the monster of the piece, is a pretty amazing visual (good thing the cover helps with that), and definitely scary. There’s a certain amount of parenting horror in this one as well, so be warned. And yet a lot of the dialog is quite funny, with a few very gentle jabs at the idea that Doctor Who is of course fictional as well.
