The Iron Legion

Comic Strip Adapatations #1.1
Released: 13 March 2019

This little interlude is a bit unusual, because it’s an adaptation for which I’ve read the source material. It’s an adaptation of a couple of the most popular stories from Doctor Who Magazine from that era. Oddly, neither Romana nor K-9 is with the Doctor at this point, and no explanation is offered. The action starts in the village of Stockbridge, its first appearance in the Doctor’s timeline. They’re invaded by the Iron Legion, a robot army from a parallel dimension where Rome never fell. The Doctor pursues them back home to rescue everybody. Although the original comics were short, the audio story follows the plot quite closely (deviating a bit at the end), adding dialog and embellishments to make it a full-length story. There’s more action than in a usual story, and it’s noticeably more fanciful and wider-screen. Also, the Doctor behaves a bit more broadly, with heightened dialog, and more action, which you’d expect from a comic strip. If you like your Doctor Who with some farce, this one is for you.
