The Fourth Doctor and Romana II

Although Mary Tamm is awesome, Lalla Ward made a strong impression as Romana II. She was smart enough to equal the Doctor, and in her new form, a little more whimsical and flexible, deliberately chosen to match the Doctor’s lifestyle better. There was certainly plenty of chemistry between this Doctor and Romana, as the actors married, but only briefly. Lalla Ward has also been a strong supporter of Big Finish, appearing in a number of Companion Chronicles and also headlining the Gallifrey series. It seemed somewhat inevitable that she’d participate in the Fourth Doctor Adventures series. Although Big Finish goes to great lengths to hide it, it seems that she never actually records with Tom Baker, but always does so remotely. Unfortunately, it seems like some of that bleeds into her performance, as she quite often seems exasperated, with little of the joy from her first few TV stories.
