The Thief Who Stole Time

Fourth Doctor Adventures #6.9
Released: 13 September 2017
Listened: 7/9/22
The second part of this story provides an awful lot of sturm und drang, with people chasing about on the dangerous surface, giant electric eels threatening everybody, and oh yeah, it turns out the planet is a gigantic gelatinous mass engineered by the Time Lords eons ago to plug up a space-time rift, as one does, and then forgotten about. Romana’s old friend Sartia, it turns out, has always hated her, and in addition she’s got a plan to take over all of space and time, as renegade Time Lords often do. When it comes to evil villain ranting, Joannah Tincey has it down. In the extras, several people think she might make a good recurring villain, but that hasn’t happened yet. Jane Slavin and Kieran Hodgson put on their best Cornish accents as natives, and yet still somehow managed to sound like themselves. It’s a big, blowout season finale, but having Mark Platt do it instead of Nick Briggs gives a different quality to the whole thing.
