This Short Trip, in contrast, is a story, although a brief one. The TARDIS lands in P.T. Barnum’s circus in 1885. Of course the Doctor loves a circus, although Sarah Jane is less thrilled. The Doctor delights in pointing out the original Jumbo the Elephant, but the fun ends when a circus performer steals the TARDIS key and accidentally moves it a short distance. Unfortunately, that accident leads to tragedy, and it seems to be one of those times where the Doctor is predestined to be involved with an established historical event. It’s neat if you want to learn a bit about Jumbo and the circus, but otherwise, kind of sad.
