Tip for the non-British: “Only Connect” is the name of a game show in which contestants try to find the common link between groups of disparate items. This Short Trip is longer than the previous, but it’s equally a vignette. An architect gets a taxi ride from a strange driver who turns out to be the Doctor, of course. The Doctor claims that he drives a cab because it’s a source of interesting information that may save lives someday. Of course, we’ve never known the Doctor to spend much time as a cab driver, so it doesn’t make a ton of sense. The architect gives the Doctor a bit of info about Chase Manor, site of “The Seeds of Doom,” but if this timeline is correct, the Doctor no longer needs that information. I expected there to be a twist, but there really isn’t. John Banks narrates, and does a slightly better job of matching Tom Baker’s tone than Hugh Ross did, but still without being an impression.
