The Second Doctor

The Second Doctor, like the First, had a slow start when it comes to Big Finish. Patrick Troughton was unavailable, as was Michael Craze. However, the saving grace for Second Doctor audios has been Frazer Hines (Jamie). Jamie is with the Second Doctor for almost the entirety of his tenure, so doing stories without him would have been nearly impossible. Fortunately, Frazer Hines loves Big Finish, is more than happy to do audios, and even better, does a very convincing impersonation of Patrick Troughton. He started off doing some Companion Chronicles, in which it’s pretty common for the narrator to voice the Doctor, and did it so well that when Big Finish transitioned to the Early Adventures, he just started playing the Doctor outright. The various companion actors (bar Michael Craze) have been willing, leading to a decent number of Second Doctor stories. There aren’t any big gaps in his tenure, so the stories are spread somewhat evenly throughout his three seasons, weighted a bit more toward the end. There’s also the “Season 6B” issue, but we’ll deal with that later.
