The Second Doctor, Jamie, and Victoria

Deborah Watling (Victoria) suffered from having most of her TV stories lost, until “Tomb of the Cybermen” famously showed up. She did some Big Finish, but not a lot. Unfortunately, because she was a heavy smoker for most of her life, she had more difficulty than most companion actors in sounding like her younger character. As a result, this era only has a handful of stories in which she appears. This is the first time that both the companions have been from the past, relative to the viewer, which leaves Jamie acting as the more knowledgeable of the two, and often serving as protector, which Victoria lets him do. Victoria is also part of the “Season 6B” timeline, which accounts for “The Two Doctors.” It’s been supposed to take place after “The War Games,” but Big Finish also supplied an opportunity for it to exist here. That also creates a space to put stories where the Second Doctor is alone, or traveling with just Jamie, neither of which happened on TV.
