Companion Chronicles #2.2
Released: November 2007
Listened: 9/30/20
This is an early Companion Chronicle, so it has a frame story attempting to justify why Jamie sounds older, the usual trick of having older Jamie be the narrator, telling the story to a third party. Except Jamie shouldn’t remember his time with the Doctor, so there’s a bit of nonsense about him being struck by lightning, causing him to regain his memories. But that’s mostly unnecessary, because Frazer Hines does a great job portraying both younger Jamie and the Doctor. The story is specifically mentioned to take place while Victoria is away studying graphology, so during Season 6B. The Doctor and Jamie arrive at a fancy resort in an area of space that exudes tranquil vibes, so of course there are mysterious deaths right away, and they get caught up investigating them. The mystery, such as it is, isn’t terribly difficult to figure out, and like a lot of early Big Finish, ends a little anticlimactically. Still, without a companion, this is about as close to pure Frazer Hines as you’re likely to get.
