The Second Doctor and the Time Lords

Sometime in 2021, Big Finish embarked on a shake-up of their series lines. They’d had success recasting the Third Doctor with Tim Treloar, so they recast the First with Stephen Noonan, but the Second was a bit trickier. The Second Doctor up to this point only existed in Early Adventures and Companion Chronicles, almost always played by Frazer Hines, whose portrayal had a bit of caricature to it. Instead, the Doctor is played by Michael Troughton, son of Patrick, brother of David, and himself an occasional Big Finish actor, as well as having a small part in the TV series in “Last Christmas.” His portrayal is more naturalistic, sometimes sounding very much like his father; other times not. One can get used to it fairly quickly. The overall plot matches the “Season 6B” theory that fans invented to explain the inconsistencies in “The Two Doctors,” despite the fact that Big Finish already explained that in “The Black Hole,” sorta-kinda. Most of the stories in this section are considered to be "The Second Doctor Adventures," although Big Finish doesn't seem to officially number them, and instead refers to them by the title of the boxed set.
