The Seventh Doctor

The Seventh Doctor, like the Fifth and Sixth, has been in Big Finish since the start of the Main Range in 1999, so he’s got a lot of stories. And a large number of them feature Ace, because she was still with the Doctor when the classic series ended, she’s so dedicated to the Doctor that it seems impossible to write her out, and Sophie Aldred has been a willing Big Finish participant the entire time. Like the Sixth Doctor, the Seventh Doctor’s TV stories all come fairly early in his tenure, and then Big Finish was free to go nuts. Well, more or less. From 1989, when the show went off the air, to 1996, when the Eighth Doctor appeared, there were a number of original novels written featuring the Seventh Doctor and various companions, and unlike all the other Doctors, Big Finish tried to work around them, which complicates the timeline. The novels also emphasized the Seventh Doctor’s darker, more manipulative side, and their placement in this timeline means that most of Big Finish emphasizes that part too. But the stories go on long enough that there’s also a reflective, regretful Doctor at the end of his tenure.
