This one is a brief vignette with action, but not much of a plot, as the Doctor once again acts inscrutable. The TARDIS shows up on a British WWII naval vessel charged with escorting a convoy in northern waters, but it’s going rather poorly. At first, the Doctor is happy to assist, helping out with the sonar, and even using alien tech to help locate the rest of the convoy. Once it becomes a matter of fighting back against a German submarine, he stops helping and gets concerned about the Web of Time. Ace, of course, doesn’t care about any of that, and gets involved in rescue efforts. This seems like it’s a story that should have been longer, to delve into how the Doctor and Ace think about interference, but that didn’t happen.
