Doctors and Dragons

Short Trips #9.3
Released: 27 March 2019
Listened: 11/25/20
I’ve placed this story here, because Doctor is still dealing with elder gods, so fairly close to Season 26 seems appropriate. This Short Trip has an intriguing high concept, that the story seems to take place in a Dungeons & Dragons setting, down to random events being determined by the roll of a 20-sided die, and the Doctor has somehow stumbled into this. The point of view character seems to be on a noble quest to save a friend that brings her in opposition to the Doctor, which is a nice setup. However, something changes in the narration that makes part of the story unreliable, and that’s annoying. Sophie Aldred narrates, and in this case the Doctor has a bunch of dialog, so there’s quite a bit of her version of Sylvester McCoy’s accent. Thumbs up for the setting, thumbs down for the execution.
