The Split Infinitive

The Legacy of Time #2
Released: 17 July 2019
Listened: 11/10/20
The Legacy of Time project, like the Worlds of Doctor Who release that came before it, is intended to highlight the Big Finish-original characters and spin-offs, but in 2019, there were a lot more of them. This story is about Counter-Measures, which means they’re paired up with the Seventh Doctor and Ace. For the purposes of this project, that’s a bit odd, because they were just together a couple of stories ago, and “Remembrance” was shortly before that, but going by release order, it’s been a while. For the team, it’s even odder, because they work with Ace in the 1960s, and with the Doctor in the 1970s, on the same case. That reflects the time jump that was used to create the “New Counter-Measures” series. John Dorney specializes in this sort of timey-wimey plot, but I have to say I object to the concept of events being both ten years apart and “simultaneous,” because time travel doesn’t normally work that way in Doctor Who... at least, not as far as I can tell. The plot itself isn’t terribly complicated, but the bad guys have a twist I didn’t see coming, even on a re-listen. It’s a fine story, but I think I’m having enough of the Counter-Measures team, which is fine, because they don’t appear again in this project.
