The Vaults of Osiris

The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield #2.2
Released: 12 June 2015
Listened: 3/6/21
This story feels very much like a Part 2, in the way Big Finish boxed sets often do: It’s an adventure that’s complete unto itself, and it’s intended to move the overall plot along too, but it can’t move it too far, because boxed sets are long. In this case, the Doctor and Ace found a gem called the Eye of Horus in Egypt in 1941, but then the Doctor apparently died. So Ace fetches Benny to help her get the gem back (Egypt and all), but they end up in 2015 instead, and end up chasing the gem to Switzerland. In contrast to the last boxed set, although Benny and Ace don’t get along perfectly, they’re a lot more in sync now, and their individual talents complement each other nicely. They also get a temporary companion, who is honestly giving off “not what she seems” vibes from minute 1, so it’s hardly surprising when that turns out to be justified. There’s also a fairly high body count in this one, and Ace, at least, doesn’t seem particularly bothered by that, which is unfortunate. The Doctor appears again at the end, just long enough to be mysterious and vanish again with Benny, leaving Ace out of the next story.
