The Seventh Doctor and Mel

If you just look at TV, it’s hard to classify Mel as either a Sixth or Seventh Doctor companion. She’s around for just a bit at the end of the Sixth Doctor’s tenure, and only a few stories at the beginning of the Seventh. And none of it really gives time to develop her character very much. There’s not a lot of room among the TV shows to fit in many adventures, but Big Finish fits in a few. Given that this version of the Seventh Doctor is still mangling proverbs and being generally silly, and Bonnie Langford’s background as an entertainer, some of these stories are pretty lightweight. And yet some of them definitely aren’t, foreshadowing the darker persona the Doctor will have later.
