Charley’s story at last comes to an end here, as does Mila’s. There’s a large gap between the last story and this one, for both the Doctor and Mila, and for Charley with the Viyrans. The nominal plot revolves around the Viyrans tracking down one of their particles to Earth, which threatens the entire human race at some unspecified point in time. There are a handful of humans, who we’re supposed to feel attached to, but they’re mostly kept in the dark the entire time, so it’s hard to empathize with them. But that’s not really what the story is about; it’s about Charley and Mila and which one the Doctor believes. Charley seems even older and wiser than she had a few stories ago; she’s clearly hardened from her time with the Viyrans. The Viyrans themselves aren’t terribly impressive as baddies. They aren’t, really; they’re just implacable, and slaves to logic as robots often are. They’re not even a force of nature, because they can be reasoned with, to an extent. They’re still a threat, but not scary as such. It’s possible that Charley overstayed her welcome a bit, but it’s really hard to fault Big Finish or India Fisher for that.

-- The stories from the two Charlotte Pollard boxed sets take place here, from Charley’s point of view, anyway. --
