The Murder of Oliver Akkron

The Eleven #2
Released: 2 September 2021
Listened: 9/6/21
The Doctor and Constance don’t appear in this story, which technically means that it doesn’t belong in this project, but it would be silly to leave it out. It’s a very different kind of story, mostly in the form of a conversation between the Eleven and the titular Oliver Akkron, who’s presented as a fairly important person, and through the course of the story it becomes clear just how important, and what he did to achieve that. The Eleven, for his part, seems to have resolved his condition entirely, and currently claims that the Eight is the dominant persona. He’s become a monk (again), albeit one with a level of fame. There are also cutaways to some scientists who are working to stop some alien parasites, an infestation that’s proving quite fatal to chunks of the population. Miskavel doesn’t appear until the very end, when the story unravels itself. It’s very much a murder mystery in the Doctor Who style, with gobs of timey-wimey, false identities, and unreliable narrators. The fact that every character has more than one persona makes things even more confusing. This story probably benefits from a repeat listen once you know what’s going on. However, it only makes sense as the middle part of this boxed set, and should be listened to that way.
