This story is the first in the set, but takes place second. Written by Jac Rayner, it’s another true historical, with the only interfering aliens being the Doctor and Evelyn. It’s a mess of timey-wimey, with the travelers accidentally interfering with the conception of Julius Caesar and dealing with the resulting fallout. Evelyn makes a good effort at changing the future, since her last two stories have indicated that’s possible, but the Doctor is trying to put things back on their original track, as he’s aware of the disastrous consequences. The interference and repair are rather silly, but Evelyn is dead serious about her goals, and is willing to play on her status as an older woman with physical infirmities to get what she wants. The Doctor, for his part, is angry with Evelyn for her actions, but rather than just raging, as he might have not long ago, he’s sympathetic to her motivation, if not her solutions. It adds up to a pretty good story.
