After the previous harrowing adventure, Jago wants to go to a pub, so the Doctor accidentally takes them to the Roanoke colony in Virginia, in 1590. Most Americans will know this immediately as the failed colony that vanished without trace. What transpires is odd, and somewhat surreal, as the lost colonists are found, but in rather an odd prison, with even stranger jailers. The TARDIS ends up back in England, resulting in some Victorian era timey-wimey that seems partially mystical. It doesn’t really add up to a complete story. At the end of it, Jago & Litefoot end up in 1968, setting up the next season of their adventures.
